Our Story

The Chaos Coordinator…

Our shop began with a leap of faith - as an event coordinator and social media manager, our owner had an opportunity to work with a bookshop to enhance their community reach. After 18 months of lending ideas and growth to a business she no longer felt right supporting, Aimee launched The Bluestocking Bookshop, an independent bookstore in Holland, Michigan. Aimee often jokes that if it had been a possible selection in high school, she would have been nominated "Most Likely to Run a Bookstore". She has a wonderful circle of supportive friends and family - there's always someone dropping by at the shop!

The Journey So Far:

Six months after our opening, the world was rocked by mass shutdowns and the COVID-19 pandemic. Our bookshop survived thanks to the community around us - online book orders carried us through the initial closings and have remained a steady part of our store. In spite of this hiccup at our beginning, our store has continued to grow and adapt - in April of 2022 we hired our first employee and (literally) kicked in the wall to expand into the unit next to our first space!

The Community We Love

Our team has been both honored and thrilled to lend our voices to community events in the West Michigan area, offering support for local PRIDE festivals, Juneteenth celebrations, fundraising efforts at a myriad of nonprofit organizations, and with our Educator Fund that rewards teachers and school staff for the work they do in education. Our bookshop is built to be a place for the community to gather, educate, organize, and initiate change for the betterment of our collective society.

Get Involved

We encourage our team and readers to Get Involved at the local level and are happy to share the connections and resource information we have gathered in store! Be The Change!
